Hampi Series

Hampi, on the Tungabhadra in Karnataka, was the capital of the Vijayanagara Empire from 1336 to 1565 and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its ruined temples, bazaars and pavilions sit among a sea of rounded pink granite boulders, with green paddy and banana groves along the river. This series paints Hampi as an oil painter would see it, at dawn, in monsoon light and under a full moon: the Virupaksha and Vittala temples, the stone chariot, the Lotus Mahal, coracles on the river and the boulder hills themselves.
