Lounge & Café Art

For the café, the bar and the chai corner.

Chai carts and filter coffee, gramophones and turntables, carrom boards, bioscopes and goli soda: the India we grew up with, made for café walls, bars, lounges and the corner of the house where the tea is made.

Chapter II

How a canvas is put together

A slim solid pine stretcher bar behind taut canvas, grain and a knot visible
The bar — solid pine, 25 mm, real grain and knots
A staple line running down the back of the pine bar, holding the canvas under tension
The tension — stapled down the back, so the face stays taut
A mitred canvas corner folded over the stretcher bar and stapled behind
The corner — folded, not cut, mitred on every one
A sawtooth hanger screwed into the top stretcher bar, ready to hang
The hanger — sawtooth, already screwed to the top bar

A wide Pichwai canvas of sarus cranes over a lotus pond, hung above a sideboard
Chapter III · Size & Scale

The hardest thing to judge on a screen.

How big is it, really. Every size on every product page is given in inches and centimetres, and the size guide shows each one against a sofa, a console and a door so you can place it before you buy.

A Note from the Studio

"We publish the millimetres, because the millimetres are what you actually get: a 10 mm face and a 6–8 mm gap on a floater, a 15 mm face sitting flush on a classic frame, and 25 mm of solid pine behind either."
