Frequently Answered

Questions we are actually asked.

Answered plainly, from the workshop. Every question is open by default — nothing to click, and no answer hidden behind a form.

Before You Order

Is this a painting or a print?

A print. Every piece is printed on canvas, fine grain and semi-matte, then stretched over a solid pine frame in our own workshop. Nothing here is hand-painted, signed or numbered, and we will never describe it that way.

How do I choose the right size?

Measure the furniture the canvas will hang above and take two-thirds of that width. A 45 in console wants roughly 30 in; a 54 in sideboard wants 36 in; a 72 in sofa wants 48 in. The size & scale guide walks through all three measurements.

Do you send samples?

No. A canvas print is not a material you need to swatch — what you actually need to judge is size, and a sample cannot answer that. Instead, the size in inches is printed on every product image against real furniture, and the construction is published in millimetres on the specification page.

Can I order a custom size?

No. There are twenty-three sizes across six aspect ratios, and each has its own die-cut box. A size without a box cannot be shipped safely, so we do not make one. Each design is offered in the three or four sizes that suit its proportions.

The Canvas and the Mount

What is it printed on?

A woven cotton-blend canvas with a fine grain, semi-matte right through the surface. That matters in Indian rooms: no glare from a tubelight, a window or a ceiling fixture.

What is the difference between wrapped, floater and classic?

Three mounts, with the same canvas and the same stretcher under all of them. Wrapped means the image carries round the 25 mm edge of the stretcher and there is no outer frame at all. A floater holds the canvas from behind inside a frame, leaving an open 8 mm gap right round the edge so the canvas appears to float - 10 mm face, 35 mm deep. A classic frame sits flush over the edge of the canvas with no gap at all - 15 mm face, 25 mm deep. Wrapped and floater come with the premium canvases; the classic frame comes with the value range.

Do the frame finishes differ in size?

No. Within a family every finish is identical. The four floaters - Natural, Antique Gold, Walnut and Matt Black - are all 10 mm face, 8 mm gap, 35 mm deep. The three classic finishes - Black, White and Gold - are all 15 mm face, flush to the canvas, 25 mm deep. Only the colour changes.

Is there glass?

No. Nothing to reflect, nothing to crack, and nothing that makes the parcel heavy or fragile.

What is the stretcher made of?

Solid pine, 25 mm, with its grain and knots visible on the back — not board and not moulded plastic. Corners are folded rather than cut, and the canvas is stapled under tension down the back of each bar.

Hanging

Is a hanger included?

Yes — a sawtooth hanger comes pre-screwed to the top bar. There is no hardware to buy, no wire to thread and nothing to assemble. Out of the box, onto the wall.

How high should I hang it?

So the centre of the canvas sits 57 to 60 in from the floor, and 6 to 8 in above the furniture below it. That is standing eye level, and it is the height galleries use.

I rent — can I hang this without drilling?

Honestly: the sawtooth hanger is designed for one screw or a picture hook, which means a hole. If you cannot make one, a wall-adhesive hook rated above the weight of the canvas will hold the smaller sizes — a stretched canvas with no glass is far lighter than a framed print of the same size. Per-size weights are not published yet; until they are, write to hello@thegalleryofarts.in with the size and we will tell you what it weighs.

How far apart should the canvases of a set hang?

Two to three inches, depending on width — the spacing for that set is printed on the box so you are not working it out on a ladder. A set is one composition, not two or three separate canvases.

After You Order

How is it packed?

Flat, in a box die-cut for its exact rectangle — sixteen dielines across six box codes — so the canvas cannot shift. Corner blocks on all four corners and a wrap over the face.

When will it arrive?

Delivery windows and pin-code serviceability are not published yet. Write to hello@thegalleryofarts.in with your pin code and we will confirm before you order.

What if it arrives damaged?

Photograph the box before you unwrap it fully, then write to hello@thegalleryofarts.in with your order number. The written replacement policy is being finalised and will be published here.

Can I return it?

The returns policy is being finalised and will be published here. Write to hello@thegalleryofarts.in in the meantime.

Sets and Colourways

What is a colourway?

The same drawing on a different ground. A design may exist in up to five colourways — Sapphire, Emerald, Amethyst, Ruby and so on — and each is its own product with its own images, so what you see is what ships.

Does every design have four colourways?

No. Most designs have one; around a hundred have four, and a handful have five. The colourway row on a product page shows exactly what exists for that design.

What is in a set?

Two or three canvases meant to hang together as one wall composition, with their own sizes and their own packaging. They are not sold as three separate canvases that happen to match.

Are the Pichwai designs devotional?

They are decorative and auspicious rather than devotional. The collection carries no named deity figures — the subjects are Gau Mata, the kadamba tree, peacocks, the lotus jharokha and the border motifs of the Nathdwara tradition.
