A guide from the studio

The Placement Guide

Most art is hung too high and too small. Both are measuring problems. This is the short, printable guide that fixes them — the five numbers that decide where a canvas actually goes.

What is inside
  • The five numbers
Centre height, the gap above furniture, width against furniture, the gap between pieces, and the top line. With the reason each one exists.
  • A wall, drawn to scale
Where the lines actually fall — floor, furniture top, centre, door header — so you can copy it with a tape measure.
  • The size your wall is asking for
Measure your own furniture, multiply, and read the band. Including how to size a set of two or three as one piece.
  • Which shape fits which wall
Sofa, bed, entrance, corridor, stairwell, between windows. The wall chooses the shape, not the subject.
